When Greg was first elected to the District 58 Board of Education, the district was in a bad place. Due to many problems--ranging from the state of the curriculum to deficit spending--our schools were headed in the wrong direction. Morale among the staff was low, and the Board and the administration had lost the trust and the confidence of the community.
The vision that Greg and the rest of the Board brought to the table helped turn the district. Greg left District 58 in a much, much better place than when he found it. Here are the TOP TEN accomplishments that came to pass with the help of Greg's leadership:
#10. Opening up lines of communication and focusing on transparency; being more visible and receptive to the feedback of district stakeholders (teachers, parents, and taxpayers) through a variety of strategies
#9. Balancing the district’s budget and putting the organization on the path to long-term financial health
#8. Focusing on equity for all students, and pushing the belief that all students deserve the same great District 58 educational experience
#7. Supporting children and families through the chaos of the COVID pandemic and providing the resources necessary to deal with the ensuing effects experienced by our most vulnerable learners
#6. Investing in curriculum and technology to get the students the resources in their classrooms that they need to be successful
#5. Carefully managing district resources but still finding a way to expand the programs we offer to students and families (for example: all-day kindergarten becoming a FREE service for ALL families)
#4. Hiring an outstanding superintendent who has done tremendous work improving the culture and the climate of the district and getting results for our kids
#3. Building a vision for the future of the district and gaining the overwhelming support of the community on the 2022 referendum that resulted in $179 million of investments in our schools… delivering desperately needed air conditioning in all district schools, adding 6th graders to our middle schools, and making crucial security upgrades to our buildings!
